(Senior) L2 Maintenance Enginer (f/m/d)
Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced L2 Maintenance Engineer to join our team delivering services to our customer based in Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing complex Linux-based systems and network infrastructures in a mission‑critical environment of one of the major European space missions.
You will act as a key escalation point, resolve incidents efficiently, and contribute proactively to system stability, reliability, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide L2/L3 maintenance support to AIV (Assembly, Integration & Verification) campaigns for the Galileo Ground Control Segment (GCS)
- Define, produce, and maintain test documentation, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and lifecycle traceability
- Support the preparation, execution, and analysis of Non‑Regression and System Validation Test Campaigns
- Support OPS / L1 and L3 teams in:
- Problem management and root cause analysis
- System restoration and operational recovery activities
- Vulnerability management and the handling of security incidents
- Provide technical inputs to Service Asset and Configuration Management (SACM) activities, including maintaining system configuration using the provided tooling
- Support and participate in all milestone reviews related to the L2/L3 maintenance handover, ensuring operational readiness and effective knowledge transfer
- Support the design, setup, and evolution of end‑to‑end integrated maintenance and troubleshooting environments for Galileo systems
- Provide inputs to the release strategy for both minor and major evolutions of the Galileo GCS infrastructure, ensuring operational continuity and system stability
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Engineering degree in Information Technology, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline
(Relevant professional experience may be considered instead of a formal degree) - Proven experience in system administration within Linux environments, preferably in an aerospace or mission‑critical domain (min. +10 years)
- Strong skills in system monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Hands‑on experience with OPS system monitoring tools, operational maintenance, and incident troubleshooting
- Experience supporting production systems with high availability and reliability requirements
- Solid understanding of networking technologies (TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, firewall concepts)
- Experience with virtualization technologies and virtualized infrastructures
- Practical experience in system integration activities and participation in AIV (Assembly, Integration & Verification) campaigns
- Ability to operate effectively during test campaigns and system validation phases
- Fluent in English, both spoken and written, with the ability to produce and maintain technical documentation
- Fast-learner and ability to work with little or no supervision
- Good communication skills and a team player
- Ability to prioritize different and parallel activities
- Problem Solving aptitude
Desirable Skills
- Work experience in the frame of the Ground Segment of the Galileo project
- A Linux certification, for example, LPIC
- A Network certification, for example,e CCNA/CCNP
- Further language skills: Spanish and/or German

- Due to the project requirements, only candidates with nationality of any Member State of the European Union or Norway need apply. This is a must and non-negotiable.
- This position will require a security clearance (from BMWK) in accordance with the stipulation of the project.
