Job Overview

For our team located at EUMETSAT, we are looking for a Ground Station Operations Engineer!

You will be directly involved in the routine operations, their evolution, and the operations preparation of EUMETSAT's Ground Stations (GS) within the Real-time services and System Operations (RSO) division for both, LEO and GEO missions (especially MSG and MetOP, as well as MTG and MetOP-SG).

Spiced up with difficult challenges and call-outs caused by anomalies during the GS operations, your day-to-day tasks will cover:

  • Operations of the GS and external GS services,
  • Implementation, verification, and operational validation of new Ground Stations and Ground Stations Services and their evolutions,
  • Contribution to the operations preparation and system verification/validation for new satellite systems,
  • Provision of support to anomaly investigation,
  • Training of operational personnel for Ground Stations and external Ground Stations Services operations,
  • Contribution to the system verification and validation activities for future satellite systems, including formal system operational scenario validation, SSVTs, IV&V, Commissioning and operations rehearsals.

Key Responsibilities 

You will be essential for the day-to-day operations and maintenance, to the handling of anomalies, upgrades, and configuration of EUMETSAT's Ground Stations.

In addition to the above-listed tasks, you will also contribute to the definition, development, and operational validation of operational concepts for future satellite systems – vital for the upcoming new generation of LEO and GEO satellites.

You will work in strong cooperation with our team and EUMETSAT engineers across the organization.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

At least 2 years of experience in the operations of complex ground station systems in support of multiple Geostationary (GEO) and/or Low Earth Orbit (LEO) spacecraft, and experience in verification and validation of such systems.

You can easily understand the related physics processes in such satellite instruments together with a university degree (in the domain of engineering, science, or equivalent).

Essentially

  • Strong skills and experience in GS operations, evolution, and operations preparation.
  • Skills in requirements specification, design, validation, and verification of complex GS. You should also be used to create, contribute, and review technical documentation!
  • Capable of working both individually and independently on assigned responsibilities, while you are part of the system team. 
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills!

Desirable Skills

It would be ideal if you are already holding in-depth knowledge in one or more of the following fields:

  • Major upgrades or evolutions of operational ground stations,
  • Definition and implementation of verification and validation activities of ground stations,
  • Definition, verification, and validation of interfaces between ground stations and ground segments,
  • Diagnosis and correction of first-line ground stations’ hardware and software failures,
  • Preparation of requirements, design, interfaces, and testing documentation,
  • Document management and configuration control processes,
  • Definition of user interfaces for operations (HMI, reports, etc.),
  • Relevant technical standards (e.g. ECSS, CCSDS),
  • Baseband operation and configuration,
  • Dataminer, Monitoring, and control tool,
  • Space Link Extension (SLE) operation and/or configuration.
