Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced engineer to join the Mission Operations team, providing support to ESA/ESOC within the Operations Definition and Engineering Team. This full-time, permanent position is based at ESOC in Darmstadt.
Key Responsibilities
As part of this role, you will participate in the definition of future ESA missions from both the operational and ground segment perspectives.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Review and analysis of project-specific characteristics together with associated Ground Segment documentation
- Contribution to preliminary and feasibility mission studies through Concurrent Engineering activities, including participation in Concurrent Design Facility sessions
- Definition and drafting of functional requirements for project-dedicated Flight Control Software
- Specification of functional requirements for Flight Control Ground Facilities
- Contribution to Pre-Phase A and Phase B1 activities
- Definition of operational assumptions and operability requirements
- Participation in the analysis and design of satellite operations concepts
- Preparation of flight control procedures, including contingency and off-nominal scenarios
- Support to mission management and mission planning activities
- Assistance in operations preparation, validation campaigns, and routine execution
- Preparation and evaluation of operations cost estimates
- Participation in project review boards and progress meetings
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Master’s University degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Telecommunications Engineering;
- Practical experience in spacecraft system operations;
- Knowledge of satellite or ground operations;
- Experience in working in an operational environment;
- Some experience dealing with external interfaces;
- Ability to understand and accurately predict behaviour of complex systems;
- Familiarity with the ESOC working environment and Quality Management System (QMS);
- Well-organised, able to prioritise and manage several activities in parallel;
- Familiarity with effective teamwork principles and team-building aspects
- Fluency in English, both spoken and written.
Desirable Skills
- At least 5 years experience as a Spacecraft Operations Engineer
- At least 3 years experience as a Systems Engineer
- Familiarity with the ESOC environment
- Familiarity with Interplanetary, Observatory or Earth Observation satellite operations.
