Columbus Flight Control Engineer – STRATOS (f/m/d)
Job Overview
We are strengthening our service team at our customer premises in Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich and are seeking a motivated and skilled professional to join the Columbus Flight Control Team. In this role, you will contribute directly to Columbus Operations, supporting the European Space Agency’s Columbus laboratory on board the International Space Station.
As a Columbus Flight Controller, you will be responsible for monitoring and supporting operational activities, ensuring the safe and efficient execution of onboard systems and procedures. You will work in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment where attention to detail, teamwork, and adaptability are essential. This position offers a unique opportunity to play a key part in human spaceflight operations and contribute to Europe’s presence on the ISS.
Key Responsibilities
- Execution of ESA activities onboard ISS;
- Coordination with the Flight Control Team and other European and International partners for managing ISS operations on behalf of ESA;
- Maintenance and update of operational processes, procedures, regulations, tools etc.;
- Supporting Crew Increment (expeditions) with planning and execution;
- Support post incremental activities like lesson learnt, creation of reports, review etc.;
- Providing regular console support in 24×7 shift patterns;
- Providing On-call Support;
- Willingness to travel for training and meeting purposes.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Engineering Degree in Aerospace or a related domain with excellent grades;
- Proficient user of computer systems and the MS Office suite;
- Fluency in English, both spoken and written;
- Good communication skills;
- Team-player;
- Fast learner and willing to improve;
- Ability to work with little or no supervision and take responsibility;
- Flexible;
- Ability to prioritize different parallel activities;
- Capability of following and implementing standard procedures;
- Problem-solving aptitude.
Desirable Skills
- Experience in an operational environment, leading to familiarity with procedures, monitoring, and command systems, voice loops etc. would be a plus.
