Job Overview

We are seeking a Software Maintenance and Development Engineer to strengthen our team onsite at EUMETSAT, delivering world-class services.

The successful candidate will be a member of a team that ensures day-to-day operations and maintenance, handling of anomalies, upgrades, and configuration changes for off-line, operational data processing systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Earth Observation Satellite Data Processing Software Systems development, maintenance, and operations support

  • Within a formal configuration-controlled development environment, investigate, document, fix, and resolve system anomalies.
  • Attendance at technical meetings and formal reviews

  • Coordination/inputs to system release planning and preparation, including new/upgraded components

  • Test and integration activities, such as the creation and execution of test plans and procedures

  • Technical baseline documentation creation and upkeep

  • Contribute to the definition and design of data processing ground segments and their components, as well as the interfaces and validation and verification methods.

  • Support for software maintenance and evolution procurement activities, including requirements specifications and management of the technical interface with external contractors.

  • Developing and implementing maintenance policies and procedures

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Solid software maintenance and software development  experience
  • a strong background in the analysis, troubleshooting and verification of software issues
  • Experience on C++ and Java troubleshooting
  • Software maintenance or development, formal software testing, and system integration. 
  • Excellent technical writing skills used in formal technical documentation (e.g. requirements specification and design documentation, test plans and procedures, maintenance procedures) 
  • Source code management systems (for example, Subversion and Git); 
  • Analysis, debugging, profiling, fixing, and processing of software flaws 
  • Programming and scripting languages (C++, JAVA)
